WHEREAS, for over five decades, the State has diligently received and safeguarded forgotten funds encompassing uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, forgotten dividends, and various financial accounts abandoned due to lost contact with their rightful owners; and
WHEREAS, finding unclaimed property is easier than ever, with a simple and free search available on the State's Unclaimed Property website at https://www.marylandtaxes.gov/unclaimed-property/, where one can easily file a claim and potentially reclaim lost funds; and

NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Board of Garrett County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim February 1, 2024, as Unclaimed Property Day and urge all its citizens to take advantage of this free service and utilize the State's website to check for unclaimed property under their name. We also encourage you to share this information with families, friends, and neighbors to raise awareness of this program, ensure more Marylanders are reunited with their unclaimed property, and celebrate the power of good stewardship.
