Public Hearing Notice
Garrett County Homestead Tax Credit
The Board of Garrett County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 4:00 pm on the Homestead Tax Credit. The Homestead Tax Credit limits the increase in taxable assessments each year to a fixed percentage. Every county and municipality in Maryland are required to limit taxable assessment increases to 10% or less each year. Garrett County’s limit is currently at 5%, and the proposal is to lower the limit to 3%. This will benefit the residents of Garrett County that have assessments increasing more than 3%.

Individuals or representatives of groups wishing to make oral or written comments are encouraged to attend the hearing. Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes. Written or voicemail comments may be submitted in lieu of oral testimony and will be accepted thru Friday, February 2, 2024, via email at comments@garrettcounty.org.
