LEAN Management

What is LEAN?

Maximizing customer value while minimizing waste is the core idea of lean. Simply put, lean is creating more value for customers while utilizing fewer resources.

Garrett County Government's LEAN Committee was formed in 2011 in an effort to implement more efficient solutions and processes to create better outcomes for employees and the constituents that they serve. Garrett County's LEAN Committee is made up for 5 County employees and 6 Community members.

Awareness is the first step in a successful LEAN initiative. In an effort to make other employees aware of LEAN practices, posters detailing basic lean concepts including 5 pillars of lean, elements of waste and principles of lean have been posted at each Roads Department location as well as the Department of Public Utilities. Information has also been printed on pay stubs of some employees. All members of this committee are encouraged to share any information with co-workers and bring feed back and suggestions back to the group. An anonymous submission form has also been established for County employees to leave suggestions if they choose to do so.
