The Board of County Commissioners for Garrett County adopted a resolution in support of the Second Amendment. The Garrett County - Second Amendment Preservation County resolution is in response to citizen requests for the County Commissioners to support constitutional rights under the Second Amendment.
Declaring a county as a Second Amendment Preservation County is a measure taken by local-level governments to express its commitment to the Second Amendment; the rights of all United States citizens to keep and bear arms.
The process began in January and the Board of Commissioners solicited comments from the public for four weeks. Over that timeframe, the Board of Commissioners received hundreds of comments with the vast majority in favor of an adoption of a resolution in support of the Second Amendment.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 restrictions on group meetings, a decision was postponed with the intention to have a final public meeting on the issue.
The Board of Commissioners announced the backing of the citizen requests for a resolution at their public meeting on Monday.
“The Board of County Commissioners for Garrett County wishes to express its intent to stand for the Preservation of Second Amendment rights and to oppose, within the limits of the Constitution of the United States and the State of Maryland, any efforts to unconstitutionally restrict such rights, and to use such legal means at its disposal to protect the rights of citizens to keep and bear arms”.
Overall, Garrett County, like the rest of the world is adapting and adjusting to the impact of COVID-19. The county has been and continues to, offer all services through this unprecedented time.
